My Role

Multiplayer Map Designer
Skill Sets: “TrenchBroom” Level Designer

Quake is a classic first-person shooter game that was released in 1996. In the game, players take on the role of a character exploring a series of dangerous levels filled with monsters, traps, and other obstacles. The game's fast-paced and intense combat, as well as its cutting-edge graphics and sound effects, made it a major hit with gamers around the world.

One of the most memorable features of Quake was its multiplayer mode, which allowed players to battle against each other in a variety of different maps. These maps were designed to offer a range of different gameplay experiences, from tight and claustrophobic corridors to wide-open spaces with plenty of room to maneuver. In 2021, the game was re-released as Quake: Enhanced Edition, including original game, two expansion packs, improved graphics, new features like crosshair scaling, and support for mods and custom maps.

Just like the rest of the world, I’ve been playing the Quake Re-release on my PC and Nintendo Switch for the last three weeks. Just like the rest of the internet, I LOVED the original Quake Trilogy. If I’m being honest, I think Quake II was probably the weakest in the series, only because other games were doing the multiplayer thing better by then. I was already playing Jedi Knight, Dark Forces II and its sublime expansion pack Mysteries of the Sith by then. Frankly, they were a much more well rounded multiplayer experiences. But that being said, the Quake Trilogy has a special place in my heart

Quake swag from over the years

In 2021, I had the opportunity to create a custom multiplayer map for Quake, one of my all-time favorite video games. The map, which I named "Reign," was a labor of love that took many hours of planning, testing, and refining to perfect. I designed the map to offer a challenging and exciting gameplay experience, with a series of interconnected rooms and corridors, multiple levels, and hidden areas that offered strategic advantages to skilled players. Overall, the creation of "Reign" was a rewarding experience that allowed me to flex my creativity and contribute to the vibrant Quake community.

I loved making the "Reign" multiplayer map for Quake! It was such a fun and exciting process to design and create a unique space for players to battle it out. From the layout of the map to the placement of weapons and power-ups, every detail was carefully considered to create a challenging and engaging gameplay experience. I'm so proud of the final product and can't wait for other players to try it out in the newly released Quake: Enhanced Edition.
