Phantasy Star Online on Switch

In April 2020, rumors spread that Phantasy Star Online 2 might be launched on the Nintendo Switch. As a fan, I was thrilled but found myself wondering, "Why not release the original Phantasy Star Online?" This game made its debut on the Sega Dreamcast in 2000 and later transitioned to the Nintendo Gamecube in 2002. However, its official servers were closed in 2007, leaving a lasting impact on its fanbase. Though unofficial servers like Schthack, Ultima, and Sylverant still operate, the game is undoubtedly ready for a reintroduction on a contemporary platform. And the Nintendo Switch seems like the perfect choice.

While researching, I discovered a widespread community on platforms like Facebook, Reddit, and various server websites. They all pondered the same question: How could fans unite and convey their desire for a Phantasy Star Online release on the Switch to Nintendo? Numerous classic games have seen revivals due to substantial fan demand, with titles like Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 9 being prime examples.

Leveraging my unique skills, I wanted to give this passionate community a tangible concept pitch and an easily shareable blog post. Using online plans, I 3D modeled a Nintendo Switch console and game case. I then combined this with gameplay footage from my characters on the Ultima server to craft a compelling pitch trailer. Through a blog post, I provided a space for this pitch and incorporated a feature allowing readers to directly share the concept with Nintendo via Twitter.
